EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS

We are now accepting applications for early childhood programs, please see the link to the attendance map below to determine your in-area school in preparation for online registration.

EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM (ELP)

 ELP is offered in the morning or the afternoon for children who are 3 - 4 years old by December 31, 2021. The program is provided to a diverse group of children, serving play partners and those with developmental delays. We reserve up to five spaces in each class for play partners. Play partners are children that reflect typical development and are three or four years old. The cost for a play partner is $225/month, and a pre-authorized debit agreement is required upon confirmation of placement (not at the time of application). Children with assessed developmental delays need to qualify in order to access early intervention through Mild/Moderate Supports or Program Unit Funding as outlined by Alberta Education.

A one time school based fee of $60 may be required, depending on student age and level of need. Families who registered prior to March 31 will be notified by April 2021 via email regarding the status of their application. Applications received after March 31 will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified when a space becomes available. Please note this is an educational program therefore it is not eligible for a subsidy or a childcare deduction on your income tax. A
ll schools are working on plans to provide virtual opportunities for families to learn about programming and see inside the school.

KINDERGARTEN

Children must be five years old by December 31, 2021, to register for 2021-2022 Kindergarten programming. Kindergarten is a part time program and will be offered in either the morning or afternoon.

PLAY & LEARN PROGRAM

Families can indicate that they would like to choose the Play & Learn Program during the online registration process for Kindergarten.

We believe in the importance of building a solid foundation in the early years. To enhance our half-day kindergarten program, we will offer an optional, part-time, Play & Learn program for kindergarten aged children. This will allow all children the option to receive a full day of programming to engage in holistic play-based activities through exploration and problem solving to develop literacy skills and physical well being in an inclusive environment.

NEW STUDENTS REGISTRATION

Starting Feb 1, 2021, we will accept online applications for new students to attend ELP, Kindergarten, Play & Learn and grades 1-12.

To register a student, families will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Proof of the child’s age and legal name. Documents accepted are: birth certificate, adoption certificate, student authorization visa, Canadian citizenship papers, or permanent landed immigrant/residence documentation;
  • House number and street address if you live in a town or city; your 911 address (e.g. 223245 TWP RD) if you live on a farm or an acreage;
  • Home, cell and business telephone numbers (e-mail if available);
  • Notification of special medical conditions or medications for the child;
  • Name and address of child’s previous school (applies to students moving into the system)
  • A copy of the child's most recent report card.

Devices: All students in grades 3 - 12 will require a device capable of Internet connectivity such as a Chromebook or laptop that can go back and forth between home and school. Loaners will be made available as necessary for students in grades 3 - 12. Students in grades k to 2 will have access to school-owned devices. This past school year MHPSD was able to procure and discount thousands of Chromebooks to support student learning during COVID-19. This is not something that we can offer in the future, however, local and online retailers such as Memory Lane and Best Buy will have devices available for purchase. More information on how to purchase required devices will be made available in the coming months.
